Scotland’s Shame

scotlands-shame

The latest painting for Project Mogwai. Bannockburn 1314 and all that. I would imagine the Scots have little to be ashamed of, so my interpretation of the title was that their shame lies in the hunk of shitty mud hanging off their proud nation’s heel that is England; a place that I myself, having been born and raised there, have deep reservations about… and yet I can’t honestly imagine living anywhere else. That said, in the mid-90’s I did visit Glasgow several times, was deeply impressed with the place, and came to believe that had the course of my life gone another way then I would have probably moved there.
